21 Day Fix – .5 Yellow, .5 Spoon
I estimated high on the 21 Day Fix, but better that then estimate low, I suppose. You can make your own decision! I also like to call these the “uh oh I accidentally ate the whole thing” oatmeal balls, because I always end up eating the whole thing.
Makes 40 balls.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups oatmeal
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup peanut butter
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1 banana
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp salt
- Combine oatmeal, peanut butter, chocolate chips, and salt in a large bowl
- Add banana and mash into the dry mix with a fork
- Add vanilla, peanut butter, and honey, mix well
- Refrigerate mixture for 30 minutes
- Roll into balls and place in freezer to set
OH MAN, did I mention I normally eat the whole thing? It’s bad, but it could be worse…right? RIGHT? Just make me feel better, people.
This recipe can be modified in an INCREDIBLE number of ways, including:
- removing the banana, or adding another
- replacing the chocolate chips with peanut butter chips, mint chips, or other type of chocolate
- adding raisins or cranberries
- adding chopped nuts
- using chunky peanut butter
Really…ANYTHING!
Rolling the balls is always a little difficult, but I mastered it! I took a small pile of the mixture after refrigerating it and squeezed it tight in my hand. Warming it up a little allows the honey to be more sticky. Letting it set in the freezer just speeds up the process, and holds it together!

How many balls is a serving for 21 day fix?
It certainly depends on how big you make them/what you put in them, but I considered 2 balls = 1 serving, sometimes 3. Just be honest with yourself about measuring! That’s a big part of it! 🙂
How long are they good for?
I put them in the fridge. They’ve only ever been there a few days because they disappear! I would imagine they would last a while in the fridge, considering the ingredients don’t spoil quickly.
What is the container colors for one portion?!`
.5 Yellow, .5 Spoon
and this is for 2 of the balls, right? or .5 yellow, .5 spoon per ball?
Yes. I always stress to be honest with yourself with these measurements. Mine may be smaller or bigger than yours turn out. Be honest. 1 yellow is 1/2 cup of oatmeal. 1 spoon is 1 tsp of peanut butter. If you’re adding chocolate chips or other things, that changes your measurements.
What kind of oatmeal? Just regular Steel cut oats or instant
I used regular oats, but I imagine you could use steel cut, as well!
Is peanut butter chips ok for the 21 day fix
I would consider them the same way you would chocolate chips!
ThanKs how long in freezer after u put in the refrigerator for 30 minutes
I stored them in the freezer, but that was my own personal preference. You can put them in there, or leave them in the refrigerator!
Just wondering what could be substituted for the banana?
I’m not sure of any substitutions, but the recipe works without it, too!
How did you get 40 balls out of this recipe? I got 24 and they’re tiny!
Not sure! I got roughly 40 – maybe 38 or so? Perhaps because I used chunky peanut butter? More surface area?
Roughly how big were each ball?
Can dark chocolate chips be used?
Yes, you can add anything you want to this, as long as you’re accountable for what you add.
I’m new to this 21 day fix, are chocolate chips ok period??? I thought sugar wasn’t allowed at all??
In the recipe, it says to add peanut butter in two different places………….. which is it?
my apologies. The peanut butter should be added after the dry ingredients are combined.
Would you say that your balls are about the size of a Tbsp or smaller?
how do you count the chocolate chips on the 21 day fix?
FYI for people on ww it is worth 3 smart points per serving on the new system 🙂
Thanks, Kristina!
I use organic dark choc roll them in it before freezing instead of choc chips really, good
Can I use regualr instant Quaker oats? Like the quick one- minute kind?
yes you can!
Do we cook the oatmeal first?
Nope! Keep it dry!
A couple suggestions/questions – first, thanks for taking the time to post this! 🙂 You mention peanut butter twice in the step-by-step directions…is that supposed to be like that? Also, I believe you mean to say 2 cups of OATS not oatmeal (as in cooked oats…), yes?
